Despite the scorching heat and serious impacts of Covid-19, Dong Mit Construction Site is always crowded and busy when the completion day is about to come.
According to Mr. Doan Van Luyen, Deputy Head of Irrigation Construction & Investment Management Board and Supervisor of the Dong Mit Irrigation Project, the current construction process of main work items of the Dong Mit Reservoir, located in An Trung commune, An Lao District (Binh Dinh Province), is nearly completed and is expected to be completed by December 31, 2021.
As of August 15th, 20121, the Roller compacted concrete work for the right main damabutment of Dong Mit Reservoir had been implemented from the Section No.9 to Section No.18 and up to the EL.104.55m while the left dam abutment had been completed from Section No.1 to Section No.6.
The culvert had been installed to the design elevation of 105.2m and the Contractor is planning to install gates and mechanical equipment for water storage. Shortly, the Contractor shall finish the installation of gates, locking devices, and then switch to construct the Operation Center.
The Dong Mit reservoir’s inlet culvert has now been completed with the body of the culvert; culvert tower to an elevation of 102.2m. The conical valve tunnel, transition wall, and concrete covering are being built in the downstream section of the culvert and tailrace channel. By August 15, the Dong Mit Reservoir project had been installed with steel pipes, conical valves, and successfully loaded. In the coming weeks, the Contractor will continue to build the culvert tower to a height of 105.2m, which is expected to be completed by August 31; at the same time, the Contractor will build concrete covering the sewer pipe and the conical valve chamber at the culvert’s downstream end.
The flood discharge of Dong Mit Reservoir has also been completed with concrete work for overflow surface on EL. 86.10m; completed upstream pylons to the design elevation, and is making plans to install bridge girders. In the coming time, the construction unit will attempt to complete downstream pylons to the design level; continue to plunge the bridge girder of section 3-2, then move to the left bank to plunge the girder of section 1, and install the supply valve from section 3-2-1.
According to Mr. Luyen, up to now, the Dong Mit reservoir has been basically completed, the main dam has been completed with roller compacted concrete, only concreting the top of the dam and the railing remains. Flood spillway has been in the final stage, and is about to move to installation stage of the bridge girders prior to completion. Drainage sluice has also been completed, the Inlet culvert is only constructed with concrete covering the steel pipe and completing the reinforced concrete part of the channel slope.
“The mechanical works up to this point have completed the fabrication, and the Contractor has finished basic installation of mechanical pipelines of the Inlet culvert, discharge culvert and is installing the overflow gate. Before December 31, 2021, the Dong Mit reservoir project will be completed, tested and put into use. Currently, we are organizing bidding and selecting contractors to execute the last items of the project such as: focal point manager, landscape embellishment, lighting and operation system, automation system. “, said Mr. Doan Van Luyen.
He also stated that because Construction Joint Stock Company 47 primarily employs Binh Dinh residents and does not hire workers from other provinces, they are not affected by the Covid-19 epidemic. This is a significant benefit for the project’s acceleration. Furthermore, after 47 Construction Joint Stock Company finished the main items of the Tan My irrigation system in Ninh Thuan province, all human resources and vehicles were concentrated on the Dong Mit reservoir, resulting in a faster construction progress.
“Right now, we organize construction 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with three shifts working continuously. However, at the moment, we are doing overhead work, and the higher we go, the smaller the cross section of the dam, and the more difficult construction conditions, so the volume of work completed in a single day and night will decrease. As a result, we must make the most of every opportunity to complete the project on time,” said Mr. Duong Minh Quang, General Director of Construction Joint Stock Company 47.
“The construction unit and the investor are also strictly enforcing the prevention of the Covid-19 epidemic at the Dong Mit lake construction site. The construction unit established a Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control on the construction site to regularly urge and remind workers to comply with epidemic prevention regulations under the supervision of the Ministry of Health. Local authorities also visit the construction site on a regular basis to inspect and direct the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic,” said Doan Van Luyen, deputy head of the Investment and Construction Management Board of Irrigation 7.5 and chief supervisor of the Dong Mit irrigation project.
